School Readiness
Before inclusion begins, prepare the ecosystem
Readiness includes teachers, parents, routines, sensory needs, confidence, and peer participation.
School inclusion works best when the ecosystem is prepared before the first day becomes overwhelming.
Readiness is not only about sitting at a desk. It includes transitions, toileting, snack routines, sensory comfort, peer play, attention, safety, and teacher communication.
A practical readiness checklist
- What routines will be hardest for the child?
- What visual supports can reduce uncertainty?
- Which teacher needs a short strategy note?
- What should parents practise at home before school starts?
- How will success be measured in the first month?
A prepared ecosystem gives the child more than admission. It gives them belonging.
